How to prepare the skin for a spray tan
The majority of beauticians inform their clients well on what they should do to prepare for a spray tan: shower, exfoliate, and do not moisturise.
But how do you know if your client has listened?
You don't. Many customers may not take it all in, may not realise the importance or what you are saying, or may simply think that they know best ("I have naturally dry skin anyway, I need to moisturise").
Often, your client may be preparing their skin incorrectly without even realising it - for example, by unwittingly shaving their skin using a razor with a moisturising strip.
Another scenario is that a client may have naturally oily skin, or may work up a sweat between their shower and the time they arrive for their spray tan!
The result? A streaky, uneven tan - and an unhappy customer.
How can I avoid streaky tans?
There is only one way that you can be sure that your client's skin has been properly prepared for a spray tan, and that is to do it yourself, using pre-tan prep spray.
Prep sprays come in a spray bottle, and should be misted on immediately before spray tanning, before being wiped/buffed off.
This two-minute process removes all oils, chemicals and grease from the skin, prevents beading of liquid during application, and ensures optiminal penetration of your spray tan solution.
Ultimately, this can only mean one thing: a perfect tan, and a happy customer who will return to and recommend you again and again.
