4 tips for spray tan aftercare

Spray tanning is a great way to achieve a healthy, glowy look. But to maintain this, it's important that you care for your skin after your spray tanning session. Here are some tips on how to do exactly that:

1. Wear loose-fitting clothing

Make sure you wear loose-fitting clothing after your tanning session, if possible. Tight clothing will stick to the tan, rubbing the solution off your body and preventing it from soaking in. We recommend avoiding tight clothes for at least 24 hours after your spray tan session, and if you can, avoid wearing a bra or underwear, which tends to cling to the skin. Flowy skirts, baggy skirts and loose-fitting jumpsuits without elastic are ideal.

2. Try to stay dry

After your spray tan, try to stay dry. Avoid swimming, baths or showers for at least 4-5 hours after application. You should shower no longer than 24 hours after your spray session, however, so you can rinse off the surface bronzer. Heavy exercise should also be avoided for the same amount of time to limit sweating, which can cause streaks. Sun exposure should also be off-limits until your spray tan has fully developed.

3. Moisturise

After your spray tan, it’s important to moisturise your skin with an oil-free moisturiser. This will help to keep the colour looking fresh and reduce any dry patches. If you have a high-SPF moisturiser in your beauty arsenal, now is the perfect time to use it as well. Despite common misconceptions, the sun can be harmful to newly tanned skin, so make sure you are protected with an SPF15 or higher on all exposed areas.

4. Avoid makeup

Finally, avoid applying any makeup for at least 6-8 hours after a spray tan. Makeup can alter the colour of the tan and also cause unevenness or blotching.

With these tips, your tan should last a lot longer. Check out our range of spray tan products at Fresh Indulgence or contact our team for more guidance.
